"Lamar Down" hits hard because it puts Franklin in a spot he's seen too many times: Lamar needs help, and nobody else is going to show up. Stretch has led Lamar into a Ballas setup at the Paleto Forest sawmill. Franklin calls Lester on the move, learns how heavily guarded the site is, and brings Michael and Trevor into the job. It's not a clean reunion. The pair are still snapping at each other, which makes the rescue feel even less certain.

Three angles, one rescue

The sawmill assault is where the mission earns its reputation. You're not meant to stand in one spot and trade shots. Trevor gets the hillside and a long-range view, Michael can work around the side near the bulldozer, and Franklin presses through the front. Switch often. It keeps pressure off whichever character has drawn attention and lets you pick off targets that are tucked behind lumber piles. Michael's slow-motion shooting is great when several enemies appear at once, while Trevor is useful for clearing distant threats before the others move up.

1. Use Trevor to remove exposed guards from above.
2. Move Michael through cover instead of rushing open ground.
3. Let Franklin push toward Lamar once the entrance is quieter.
4. Check each character's position before switching again.

Getting Lamar out alive

Finding Lamar doesn't mean the hard part is over. The escape turns messy fast as more Ballas vehicles roll toward the compound. This is where many players lose time by chasing every target. Don't. Keep one character watching the open lanes, then move Franklin and Lamar through the timber stacks whenever there's a safe gap. Trevor's higher position can make the route much easier, especially when enemies try to cut across the exit. After the shooting stops, Franklin drives Lamar home to Chamberlain Hills. Their talk is uncomfortable in a believable way. Franklin sees Stretch's betrayal plainly; Lamar still clings to the street life he thinks he understands.

Gold Medal targets

For a Gold Medal run, pace matters as much as aim. You need eighteen headshots, at least seventy percent accuracy, and one enemy taken down by each of the three protagonists. The clock also has to stay below thirteen minutes and thirty seconds, so skip scenes and don't linger after an area is clear.
